TIFFIN, Ohio – The next level seems to be promising for Keimoni Hunter.
Since taking flight from Palm Beach County to Heidelberg University earlier this month, the Forest Hill alum and cornerback has been doing his best to keep himself safe.
Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, Hunter and his Student Prince teammates have had to be in quarantine for at least several days upon arrival on the Tiffin (Ohio)-based campus.
“I’m feeling great,” the 5-foot-10, 175-pound cornerback said. “It’s a beautiful environment. It’s much different than home, but it’s been a good so far. I’m being taken care of nice up here. Seniors are showing me a few things and coaches are communicating with me, making sure things in the classroom are being handled.”
Hunter, who made the decision to go and sign with Heidelberg on April 21, is teaming up with fellow college freshman cornerback Keyshawn Cunningham. Both players were anchors of the Forest Hill secondary this past season.
“I’m excited to have my right hand man with me in the secondary on the college level,” Hunter said. “We have great chemistry. We came to dominate. Nothing more, nothing less.”
As a high school senior for the Falcons in 2019, Hunter tallied 36 tackles (19 solo), 11 pass breakups, 4 interceptions, and 2 forced fumbles in 10 games played. The cornerback’s best outing was in Week 3 against John I. Leonard, when he recorded 7 tackles, 2 interceptions, and 1 forced fumble to help his team score a 42-21 win.
Hunter’s breakthrough season resulted in his selection to both the Treasure Coast All-Star Game and the Florida-Georgia All-Star Game. He caught an interception in the interstate showcase this past December.
“I went unnoticed and flew under the radar,” Hunter said. “It made my hunger run even deeper for this game. It’s all a part of this chip on my shoulder. I appreciate being such an underdog.”
