WELLINGTON – In a game with limited scoring early, it was the Atlantic Eagles defensive line that stole the show and helped lead them to a 40-13 victory over the Palm Beach Central Broncos.
Over the course of the game, the defensive line seemed to camp in the backfield and forced multiple sacks on a Palm Beach Central offense that struggled to get going early in the game.
“After halftime, and before the game, we had a talk to step it up,” Atlantic defensive tackle Henry Bryant III said. “Defensive tackles do what they have to do, defensive ends do what they have to do. So, we executed.”
On the offensive side of the ball, Atlantic got started quickly and promptly.
On the fourth play of the game, quarterback Jacoby Dorch connected with Tyrese Blue for the Eagles first touchdown of the game.
In the second quarter, quarterback Guenson Alexis came in and connected with Blue and fellow wideout Jordan Cash and Tyrese Blue to put the Eagles up 19-0.
“Not only did we have Jordan Cash and Tyrese Blue, but we also had Tyler Burke, who came up with a few big catches, as well as Rashawn [Faustine],” Atlantic head coach TJ Jackson said about the wide receivers. “I think our offense came along this week, and hopefully will continue to get better.”
On the final play of the first half, Alexis would score his third touchdown of the game on a quarterback sneak. The score put the Eagles up 26-0.
“It was planned,” Jackson said about playing two quarterbacks. “We did a little bit of that last week, we did some this week, and we will continue to do it. Let the kids keep getting better, and progressing better.”
After halftime, however, it was the Broncos who came out firing on all cylinders.
On Palm Beach Central’s first second-half drive, quarterback Anarjahe Douriet connected with wide receiver Bryan Robinson for a 30-yard touchdown pass, putting the Broncos on the board.
Later in the quarter, Douriet would take the ball into the end zone by himself. The score gave the Broncos some momentum and cut the Eagles lead to 26-13.
That, however, would be the closest Palm Beach Central would get, as rushing touchdowns by Antoine Williams and Montahj Joseph secured Atlantic’s win in the fourth quarter.
