ORLANDO, FL- It’s a great weekend for Florida Atlantic University!
The FAU Owls capped off their trip to Disney with a 84-50 statement win over Virginia Tech. After a tight first half (32-24 FAU), the Owls exploded onto the scene in the second half, scoring another 52 points. Today’s victory came in way of an offensive onslaught.
Regardless of what the Hokies’ defense attempted to do, they could not stop the high powered Owls. Tonight, four Owls (Alijah Martin, Vlad Goldin, Johnell Davis and Bryan Greenlee) scored double digit points. FAU dominated on all levels of the court, scoring at will.
While those performances were elite, FAU head coach, Dusty May made sure to shine light on the unsung star, Jalen Gaffney. Tonight, Gaffney did it all, recording 9 Points, 6 Rebounds and 6 Assists. Jalen made elite plays including an acrobatic tough basket early in the first half (see video below), and a deep stepback three.
Gaffney was firing up his teammates today, making sure they got involved in the feeding frenzy. While resting, Jalen Gaffney was hyping the bench up, keeping the energy alive. The senior stepped up, displaying selflessness and leadership to this young Owls core.
After the final buzzer, Alijah Martin was announced as tournament MVP. Martin recorded 17 Points, 8 Rebounds and 4 Assists in tonight’s championship final.
After moments of celebration, the Owls will return home to Boca Raton victorious. Next week, Florida Atlantic will face Liberty University on Thursday, November 30. Tip off is slated for 6:00 P.M.
