WEST PALM BEACH – The King’s Academy girls basketball team is the only one left standing throughout Palm Beach County and the Treasure Coast.
The Lady Lions defeated the Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy Tigers 50-37 last night (Feb. 12) to advance to the FHSAA Class 3A-Region 2 finals.
King’s Academy was led by Janessa Williams (’23), who finished with 20 points and 20 rebounds.
Holy Trinity was led in scoring by Lynn Rieth (’23) with 18 points.
The rematch of last year’s regional final certainly did not disappoint.
The Lady Lions (22-4) had a close lead on the Lady Tigers (21-5 final record), as the score was 21-17 at the end of the first half.
However, King’s Academy came into the second half fighting. Williams scored 10 of the Lady Lions 18 third-quarter points to extend their lead to 39-24.
During the fourth quarter, the Lady Tigers outscored the Lady Lions, 13-11. But the effort was not enough as the Lions secured the 13-point win.
The Lady Lions will travel to Tampa on Friday Feb. 17 to face Seffner Christian (25-4) in the 3A-Region 2 Finals. The tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
