DELRAY BEACH – Jake Weinberg is a five-star kicker for a reason.

The reigning Lou Groza Award winner for Placekicker of the Year had an amazing junior season at American Heritage (Delray Beach), to say the very least.

Let us see how the Kohl’s Kicking five-star proved his worth as the nation’s No. 1 overall kicker with these statistics in 10 games played this past fall:

•28-for-30 in touchbacks

•57-yard field goal off ground

•17-for-17 in extra points

•5-for-8 in field goals; 2 misses were for over 55 yards

•Field goals of 57, 48, 45, 33, and 29 yards off ground

Weinberg spoke on his 57-yard field goal, which came in Week 6 at home against St. Andrew’s:

“Our coach goes, ‘You want to try it out?’ I was like, ‘Let’s go,’” Weinberg said. “I knew I had the leg. It was just trusting myself. And every time I’m out there, I just gotta make sure I’m staying focused. I know I’ll make it.”

In all honesty, the 57-yarder likely sealed the deal for Weinberg’s Lou Groza Award honor.

Weinberg on his Lou Groza Award, which he won on Monday, Dec. 5 at the West Palm Beach Marriott Hotel:

“It’s truly an honor,” Weinberg said. “I really worked hard for this award. It’s a privilege, especially with the amount of kickers that have won this award and are now in the NFL and college. It truly means a lot.”

In addition to that, Weinberg’s list of major accomplishments this season have earned him the coveted Florida State offer as of today (Dec. 31).

Weinberg spoke on what the Florida State offer means to him.

“It feels amazing,” the 5-foot-10, 163-pound kicker said. “I love everything about Florida State. It’s truly an honor and I want to thank everyone who has helped me achieve this goal. It’s a great school and I can’t wait to get back on campus.”

Weinberg’s most recent visit to Florida State came when it played at home against Georgia Tech on Saturday, Oct. 29. He spoke on the experience, which was highlighted by the Seminoles 41-16 home win over the Yellow Jackets.

“Everything was amazing,” Weinberg said. “The staff treated my family and I like family. I loved everything about the campus and I can’t wait to be back on campus.”

SIDE NOTE: Weinberg has three offers right now from Florida State, FAU, and Youngstown State. He is currently ranked as our No. 20 overall player in the Class of 2024 for Palm Beach County.
