WEST PALM BEACH – Issac Scroggins values his relationships quite a bit.
This could explain why the King’s Academy outgoing senior wideout chose to play college football at Southwest Baptist, a Division II institution based on Bolivar, Mo. He made his final call on Jan. 18 and signed with the school on Feb. 5.
“The main reason is because I wanted to play with my brother Jeremiah (defensive back) and Justin Wake (quarterback),” Scroggins said of his two former King’s Academy teammates. “I also love the coaching staff at SBU.”
The 6-foot-5, 175-pound wide receiver had more to say about the upcoming reunion.
“It’s very exciting,” Scroggins said. “We played with each other for three years at King’s with a 30-4 record. We are also very close with each other off the field.”
As crazy as this sounds, Scroggins (No. 30 overall player in Palm Beach County; 2020 class) was lightly recruited by colleges. His only other official offer was from Keiser and a few preferred walk-on options to chose from.
Nevertheless, Scroggins was very happy about the final outcome.
“I enjoyed it,” Scroggins said. “It was frustrating at times being overlooked, but at the end of the day God has a plan for me. I know I’m in the right spot.”
Looking back at the senior campaign Scroggins had at King’s Academy, it was a solid one to say the least. He finished this past season with 705 receiving yards and 8 touchdowns.
The best individual game for Scroggins came against North Broward Prep, which turned out to be a 56-26 win in Week 3. He had 8 catches for 3 touchdowns and 305 all-purpose yards, including a 50-yard punt return that put the Lions offense in great position.
The North Broward Prep win gave King’s Academy a 3-0 record. But the second half of the Lions season was different, as they finished with a 2-5 record to end the year at .500 and with no postseason.
Scroggins recapped his senior year at King’s Academy.
“After going three seasons straight without losing a home game, it was kind of disappointing,” Scroggins said. “We went 5-5, but I formed relationships with people that will last forever.”
