RIVIERA BEACH – It was quite clear in the early going how this one would turn out.

In Pahokee’s 29-6 rout of Inlet Grove, the road team scored most of the game’s points during the first half of play. Save for a score in the second half from each team, it was all about the Blue Devils on Friday night (Sept. 1).

At the 11:01 mark of the first quarter – just 59 seconds in – Pahokee senior defensive back Pierre Fertil caught an interception and returned a short on to the house for six. Right after Fertil’s pick, fellow senior and athlete Jenorris Wilcher found the end zone on a two-point conversion run.

Pahokee’s lead over Inlet Grove was 8-0 that quickly.

Later on in the first quarter, the Blue Devils (1-1) grew their lead further to 15-0.

Here is how it happened.

In Pahokee’s first offensive possession, it had a short field to work with against Inlet Grove (0-2). This would turn into an easy 10-yard touchdown run for Wilcher and extra point by Jose Jaimes at the 4:22 mark.

The first quarter would end with Pahokee marinating its 15-0 lead over Inlet Grove.

Moving on to the second quarter, there was not a lot of offense going on for either team. But we did get another pick-six from the Blue Devils, which was caught and ran by junior athlete J’Tavious Jones.

To be honest, Jones made his interception return for a score look so easy. Same with what happened next, which turned from a botched extra point play to a Wilcher pass for a two-point conversion to senior Lynnard Evans.

Pahokee’s lead grew to 23-0 at the 3:53 mark and held firm at halftime.

A lightning delay halted the game for about one hour at the 11:43 mark of the third quarter. But just when some thought this game would be over, both teams would go back into action as if no inclement weather happened.

Pahokee’s last touchdown of this one came on the first play of the fourth quarter, when Wilcher ran in a long one to the end with 10:58 left. This extended the road team’s lead to 29-0.

Toward the end of this game, Inlet Grove would get on the scoreboard with a touchdown run of its own for what would turn out to be the final score.
