DAVIE – To kick off Week 6 in Broward County, the Western Wildcats took on the Piper Bengals.
In the Thursday night game (Sept. 28), the Western Wildcats ravaged the Piper Bengals, 49-0.
In the opening minutes, the Wildcats were able to quickly march down the field and punch the ball into the endzone with a score from sophomore running back Robert Ortega.
On their opponents very first possession, the defense was able to not only force an interception but also turn that into points.
On the ensuing kickoff, Western attempted an onside kick, which was recovered by Piper.
With great field position, the Bengals were able to work the field and get near the goal line. However, a dropped touchdown on a perfectly thrown ball ended their drive with a turnover on downs.
Although it was a great stop for Western’s defense, the offense was put in a tough spot with the ball now in their own 10-yard line.
To make matters worse, Piper forced a few negative plays including a sack which pushed Western to its own 1-yard line.
With a mountain of pressure now on Western, in one play, star quarterback Davi Belfort was able to find senior wide receiver Jaylon Edmond on a quick pass which he took 99 yards to the house.
In the second quarter after a quick Piper drive, Western was able to once more walk down the field and cap off the drive with another touchdown pass from Belfort to Edmond, making the score 28-0.
The rest of the night was more of the same with Belfort spreading the ball by finding sophomore receiver Calerbe Hermane and senior Decedric Stokes for touchdowns.
The night ended with a second rushing touchdown for Ortega.
On the night, Belfort had over 300 passing yards to go along with his four touchdown passes. He looked sharp and composed in the pocket by delivering accurate balls all night.
Overall, it was a good team win by the Wildcats.
