Coral Gables, FL.- It’s a time to be alive if you’re a Miami Hurricanes fan!
The ‘Canes are 4-0, they’re the #7 team in the land, the offense is shattering records and the defense is unbearable for opposing teams, all is right in the world.
On Friday, the #7 Miami Hurricanes open up their ACC schedule against the Virginia Tech Hokies. While this game can be considered “just another game” for the Hurricanes, in reality there’s much more at stake: Bragging rights.
Recently, the masses discovered that both Miami and VT’s star QBs, Cam Ward and Kyron Drones, are actually cousins.
When asked, Ward stated:
“We found out we were cousins my junior year of high school”. Cam shared. “It’s been good. We’ve been building ever since. We work with the same quarterback coach in Houston, TX in the off season. I’m just ready to play the game.”
Despite being family, these signal callers have had completely different experiences throughout Non-Conference play.
For Ward, he’s been the talk of the town. All the buzz is around him, and rightfully so might I add. He’s been the clear cut Heisman Trophy favorite, leading Miami to a 4-0 record, and tossing 1,439 yards for 14 TD’s. In 4 games, Cam Ward’s also recorded a 94.4% completion percentage, which is second in the nation.
As for Kyron Drones, things haven’t been as sweet. Virginia Tech is 2-2 on the season, with Drones passing for 765 yards, 4 scores and 3 interceptions, alongside just over 200 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns on the ground.
Despite the family ties, Cam Ward has made it clear that this game is strictly business.
When asked on if he’s spoken to Drones at all this week, Ward firmly stated:
“No”
This season, it’s been very clear that anytime Miami’s stepped onto the field, magic will be made. The Hurricanes are locked into Friday’s matchup, making sure to start ACC play on the right foot.
Kickoff between VT and Miami will be held on Friday, September 27th at 7:30 P.M.
