BOCA RATON – After being on the road in Week 1 and being overmatched by a powerful Oklahoma squad, FAU is ready to post a win.
The 63-14 loss to Oklahoma was a tough pill to swallow for the FAU squad. But head coach Lane Kiffin and the Owls knew they had to play a perfect game to pull off the upset.
FAU (0-1) has this loss in its rear view and will now be focused on the home opener against Air Force, which will be another tough opponent on the schedule. Air Force went 5-7 last year but played a tough schedule so talented teams like FAU are something they’re use to seeing.
It’s obvious that the Owls have broken the losing culture that has existed in the past. But they still have a lot of strides to make before they actually “make it”.
“At the end of the day, we’re 0-1,” Kiffin said to media members after the Oklahoma game. “We just got to go back to work. It’s the same record we started with last year.”
The last time the Owls played a home game, they were crowned Boca Raton Bowl champions. But this game doesn’t have the same hype.
Air Force will definitely be a great measuring stick for FAU and a nice Segway into conference play.
FAU announced the team will be wearing red in its home opener. The Owls were 4-1 last year when wearing red at home.
The kickoff time on Saturday, Sept. 8 will be 2:00 p.m. at FAU Stadium.
NOTE: FAU started with a 0-2 record, then went on to win 11 of its 12 final games en route to the Conference USA regular season title and championship game victory. The hometown college football team capped off last season with a 50-3 win over Akron in the Boca Raton Bowl.
