BOCA RATON – After a FAU 49-14 Shula Bowl victory over FIU the Owls look to make it two games in a row with a victory Saturday.
With Starting quarterback Chris Robinson being banged up the Owls have been adjusting and embodying the “next man up” mentality to finish off the season on a high note.
The emergence of back up quarterback Deandre Johnson has added a new dynamic to the Owls offensive scheme due to his versatility. .
Johnson entered the game and took over and seem to energize the team with his play. Johnson would finish the game 4 of 6 passing, 67 passing yards, and two passing touchdowns along with 52 rushing yards.
Even if FAU (4-5) can’t figure out their quarterback situation right now, they have the one-two punch of runningbacks Devin Singletary and Kerrith Whyte.
The pair accounted for 349 rushing yards and four touchdowns against FIU. Singletary finished with 27 carries for 184 yards and three touchdowns. Whyte finished the game with 17 carries for 165 yards and one touchdown.
The Owls put on an all-star performance as they held FIU to 14 points. Defensive backs Jalen Young and Ocie Rose came up with two big interceptions last week and they’ll need to do more of that to make up for the lost Azeez Al-Shaair that was the heart and soul of the Owls defense.
The Owls defense will need to and should come up big once again to secure a much needed win against a lowly Western Kentucky squad that’s only averaging 18.67 points per game on offense and giving up almost 30 points per game.
Western Kentucky (1-8) is currently riding a five game losing streak. The Hilltoppers last victory came in week four against Ball State.
FAU is pressed to win out the rest of the way due to the rocky start they got off to early in the season. Lane Kiffin is still confident in his team and hopes to see FAU dominate for the second week in a row.
Kiffins post game comments from last weeks win over FIU speaks to the expectations the Owls will carry into their matchup against Western Kentucky.
“Really good win,” Kiffin said. “That’s how we should’ve been playing all year long. Getting a 35-0 run against a undefeated conference team, it takes a lot of kids doing things right.”
Prediction: Being at home has been the key to the Owls success most of this season. FAU plays its best ball in paradise and they’ll need to do it once again to put down a lowly Western Kentucky squad.
38-17 FAU
The game will kickoff Saturday, November 10th at 5pm. Stadium sports will be broadcasting the game.
