As the 2026 season heats up, more eyes are now set to be on some of the key South Florida high school football matchups!
On Tuesday afternoon, the FHSAA announced the Chick-Fil-A South Florida Hometown Series, which will start on September 10, and run through, as of now, October 16. In their Instagram post announcing the initiative, the FHSAA said “We’ll be making stops across South Florida this season to celebrate the teams, fans, and hometowns that make Friday nights unforgettable.” The slate of games for the Chick-Fil-A South Florida Hometown Series was also revealed in the post, which is as follows:
- 9/10: Homestead vs. South Dade, 7 P.M.
- 9/17: West Broward vs. Doral Academy, 4 P.M.
- 9/25: Northwestern vs. Central, 7:30 P.M.
- 10/2: Chaminade-Madonna vs. St. Thomas Aquinas, 6:30 P.M.
- 10/8: Central vs. Key West, 7 P.M.
- 10/16: Coconut Creek vs. Archbishop McCarthy, 7 P.M.
The slate has a nice variety of games that feature some of the more prominent teams in the area. Out of all of the matchups, the crown jewel is the matchup between Chaminade and St. Thomas Aquinas. From the Lions’ Tromon Isaac Jr. and Brady Quinn to a lethal Raiders’ defense that features Wyatt Smith and Zayden Gamble, and everywhere in between, the primetime showdown on October 2nd could be one of the best games of the year.
Central is the only team with two games on the Chick-Fil-A South Florida Hometown Series. Their first game against the Miami Northwestern Bulls is a game that not only has sky-high potential, but puts plenty of bragging rights on the line. Both teams have elite talent on both sides of the ball, whether it is Central’s Trezavant Boyd and James Perrone or Northwestern’s Tavares Bain and Adrian Cox on offense. If not for the Chaminade vs. St. Thomas Aquinas game, this game would have a case for being the main attraction.
Even outside of those games, though, the FHSAA’s new initiative should put plenty of eyes on teams and players that deserve it. The high school season in Florida is about to hit its stride, and the South Florida Hometown Series will have a great chance to showcase everything that makes these games so important every week.
