PALM BEACH COUNTY – Three teams down, six to go.
In last week’s FHSAA regional semifinal games (Nov. 15-16), we witnessed an upset, an absolute demolition from start to finish, a close finish, and some other surprises along the way.
It resulted in playoff losses by these three teams:
No. 6 seed Palm Beach Lakes (8-4 final record) thwarted in a 55-27 road loss to No. 2 seed Dwyer (11-1) in the 7A Region 4 semifinal.
No. 2 seed Benjamin (9-2 final record) ending its season in a thud due to a somewhat shocking 23-19 home loss to No. 3 seed Delray Beach American Heritage (9-3 record) in the 3A Region 4 semifinal.
No. 3 seed Glades Day (7-5 final record) downed in a 55-14 road loss to No. 2 St. John Neumann (10-1) in the 2A Region 4 semifinal.
Here is a list of the six teams that remain in their respective quests for state title supremacy:
Class 8A – Region 3
No. 3 seed Palm Beach Central (11-1): Reached 8A regional final for first time in school history after taking down No. 7 seed Western (9-3 final record) in 38-0 rout last week.
Class 7A – Region 4
No. 2 seed Dwyer (11-1): Extinguished upset dreams in 55-27 win over No. 6 seed Palm Beach Lakes (8-4 final record) to reach 7A regional final.
Class 4A – Region 4
No. 3 seed Glades Central (9-3): Pulled off biggest upset of last week in 18-16 road win over No. 2 seed Booker T. Washington (5-6 final record) in Miami. This game was played on the night of Thursday, Nov. 15 at Traz Powell Stadium.
Class 3A – Region 2
No. 1 seed King’s Academy (10-1): Held off No. 5 seed Holy Trinity (6-5 final record) in 17-9 win and moved on to 3A Region 2 final.
Class 3A – Region 4
No. 3 seed American Heritage (9-3): Took down No. 2 seed Benjamin (9-2 final record) in 23-19
road win and advanced to 3A Region 4 final.
Class 1A – Region 4
No. 2 seed Pahokee (6-5): Bludgeoned No. 6 seed Wildwood (6-6 final record) in 34-13 home win at Anquan Boldin Stadium
