The Hurricanes have made a statement for their 2026 recruiting class, landing 5-star forward Caleb Gaskins (#16 national via 247Sports Composite) going into his senior season at Columbus high school in Miami. Gaskins officially visited Miami on September 12th, just a month before making his commitment to the Canes over the Gators and Aggies.
The 6-8, 210-pound forward from Melbourne, FL is coming off a state championship with Columbus where he brought his strong defending and rebounding, having averaged 13.6 points and 6.3 rebounds per game with the Explorers.
“I chose Miami because first of all I’d like to mention Jai Lucas. I feel like his love for me and his willingness to recruit me as hard as he can to show me what it’d be like to be at the University of Miami, he sold it,” said Gaskins.

This commitment for the Hurricanes is a significant statement moving forward for Coach Lucas’s recruiting momentum. Coming off a difficult 2024-25 season, Lucas and company have aggressively reshaped the Hurricanes program through the transfer portal and having brought in highly looked upon incoming freshmen. Adding Gaskins to the mix gives the Canes a key building block in becoming a serious contender in the ACC again.
