PALM BEACH COUNTY/TREASURE COAST – We hosted four regional semifinal games in our area last night (May 3).
One of them featured an upstart No. 8 seed in a program-defining victory, while two others resulted in flagship wins of their own.
As for the fourth one?
We will get to that particular game momentarily.
CLASS 1A-REGION 3 SEMIFINAL
No. 8 seed Somerset Academy Canyons (15-5) scored its most important and significant win in school history with a 19-6 road triumph over No. 4 seed Fort Pierce Westwood (10-5).
This playoff game was played at Lawnwood Stadium in Fort Pierce.
Here is how the Lady Cougars got it done.
During the first half, quarterback Ava Wotipka (2027) found wide receiver/athlete Delanie Doty (2027) in the end zone for a score to put their team up 6-0.
Somerset Academy Canyons extended its lead to 12-0 before Fort Pierce Westwood cut the lead to 12-6. This happened in the third quarter.
And to close the scoring out, Canyons added another one plus a one-point conversion for the 13-point margin of victory.
Doty accounted for all three scores, with two of them being on offense and the other coming from a pick-six.
With the win, Somerset Academy Canyons will advance to the Class 1A-Region 3 final on Monday, May 8.
