PALM BEACH COUNTY – Ranked No. 6 in Palm Beach County, Palm Beach Gardens (7-4) defeated Centennial (4-7) Ranked No. 9 in the Treasure Coast) Tuesday night (Apr. 4) in a 13-0 win.
Centennial started on the right path with offense, except being called on a flag right near the goal line and putting them a few yards away further from the goal line. This deeply costed the Eagles as they were intercepted by Palm Beach Gardens senior linebacker Aliah Reid on the next play.
Palm Beach Gardens then scored on the drive with a throw from Myla Aligood to Amya Lane. It gained the extra point with Raiyah Harrell.
With Centennial in possession of the ball, the Lady Eagles made work to push forward. But the Lady Eagles were immediately turned down by Palm Beach Gardens standout Jayila Stallworth, who made an interception on the drive.
Not only did Jayila provide an interception for Palm Beach Gardens, she also completed a perfect catch-and-run of 25 yards, making it very close to the goal line.
With the help of Jayila’s gain of yardage, Palm Beach Gardens was able to score another touchdown with Jissele Velez. But the Lady Gators lost yardage on the extra point due to a flag against them, falling short on yards
In the final minutes of the game, Centennial’s quarterback made an incredible 40-yard rushing play by going through the Palm Beach Gardens defense. She took the ball three yards from the goal line.
Centennial was on the verge of scoring a touchdown, but Palm Beach Gardens defender Elissia Cooper intercepted the ball. This stopped Centennial from scoring as this would help to end the game.
Palm Beach Gardens faces off against No. 6 Palm Beach Central (6-1) Wednesday evening (April 5) at 7 p.m. This game will be located in Palm Beach Gardens.
Centennial will go against No. 10 Somerset Academy Canyons (7-3) Thursday evening (April 6) at 7 p.m. It will located at Somerset Academy Canyons in Boynton Beach.
