LAKE WORTH — You may know a common saying that goes like this: Better late than never.
That’s how Park Vista felt on Friday, May 17, when a second-half comeback led by its strong defense and senior quarterback Bryson Clark gave the home team a 13-12 spring game win over Fort Pierce Central.
Early in the game, however, Clark struggled to fight pre-game jitters and had some mistakes, leading to two interceptions early on.
“I had the pre-game jitters, but in the beginning I had a lot of support from my coaches and teammates,” Clark said.
The Cobras defense kept them in the game throughout the affair.
Despite the two interceptions thrown by Clark, a strong Park Vista defensive line and an interception by senior defensive back Miles Hughes kept them down just two scores going into the fourth quarter.
Late in the final frame, the Cobras offense woke up just in time to string together a Clark touchdown pass to wide receiver Logan Hoffman across the middle, putting them down by just one score.
A few plays following a fumble forced by the Park Vista defense, Clark threw his second touchdown pass of the game, which preceded a successful extra point that gave the Cobras a one-point lead.
“It’s just me having good chemistry with my wide receivers,” Clark said about his play late. “They were the ones that did it. It wasn’t me.”
The game would be sealed by Hughes’ second interception of the game, which cemented the win for Park Vista.
“We went in the locker room and said we had to comeback,” Hughes said about the Cobras resiliency. “They depended on us and we came through.”
