DELRAY BEACH – Jeremiah McClendon has plenty of college options.
With 10 offers to date, the Atlantic (Delray Beach) incoming senior cornerback is in the process of narrowing down his choices. On July 10, he revealed his top four: Indiana, Georgia State, FAU, and Western Kentucky.
“I narrowed it down because it’s about that time to see where I belong after high school,” the 247Sports three-star cornerback said. “They are the school that’s showing the most interest and showing love. My recruitment is still open to other schools though.”
McClendon (6-foot, 170 pounds) revealed when he will most likely make his final decision.
“During the season, if we have one,” McClendon said. “I will commit in like September.”
Provided that we have a football season this fall – the FHSAA could make a final decision on all fall sports this coming Monday (July 20) – McClendon aims to improve on what was a very good junior campaign in 2019. This past year, he recorded 54 tackles, 11 interceptions, 8 pass breakups, and 3 forced fumbles.
McClendon’s best game was in Atlantic’s playoff game against McArthur, when he tallied 1 key interception, 2 pass breakups, and 1 big hit to help his team score a 13-7 win in the 7A-Region 4 semifinal round on Nov. 15, 2019. He won our Breakthrough Player of Week 13 honor for his standout performance.
“My junior season was good,” said McClendon, who received All-State First Team Defense honors in Class 7A this past February. “I made some big time plays at big time moments. I wish it could have been better with us going to states, but things happen.”
NOTE: McClendon is currently our No. 1-ranked cornerback and No. 5 overall player in Palm Beach County. His standing will almost certainly be unchanged or even improve some when our player rankings are refreshed next week.
