Boca Raton, FL.- There is a lot of hype surrounding the Florida Atlantic Owls headed into the 2025 season.
Year one of the Zach Kittley era of Owls football is rallying the community of Boca Raton and all of Palm Beach County with anticipation to support their Hometown Team.
As we prepare to enter the final stretch of the off-season before the Owls kick off their season at Maryland, I’d like to take this time to profile my potential breakout candidate for this squad. On today’s edition: Owls fans- get ready to really meet Sophomore Safety, Mike Wright III.
Wright served as a rotational piece, but also as a key contributor on special teams during his true freshman season. In his first career start in the Owls 63-16 massacre at Tulsa to end the season, Mike Wright recorded 3 tackles, 1 Pass Breakup and his first collegiate Interception.

Headed into his sophomore campaign, Wright is projected to make his way into the starting lineup. Obviously the off-season is the time for growth and development. During a quick Zoom interview, Mike reflected on what he’s done this off-season to make sure he’s ready when his number gets called.
“This off-season, the biggest thing that I wanted to focus on was my speed and strength.” Wright stated. “My biggest emphasis was in the weight room. I put on 6 pounds of muscle this off-season. I’m benching 330 like it’s nothing. My body feels great, I’ve never felt better and I’ve already seen the growth in my game.”
Later in the interview, Mike would explain how he personally has become acclimated in new defensive coordinator, Brett Dewhurst’s scheme.
“Throughout the spring, my main focus was simple: learn the defense and earn the trust of the staff.” Wright shared. “I’ve just been trying to grow my IQ of the game. My physical skill set on the field has definitely developed, but that starts with me continuing to mentally develop. Coach Dewhurst is an incredible teacher, and learning the game of football has been easier with him.”
Mike Wright and the new era of the Florida Atlantic Owls will open their season on the road as they face off against the Maryland Terrapins on August 30th. Kickoff is slated for 12:00 P.M. EST.
