WEST PALM BEACH – Palm Beach Lakes hosted a seven-team spring football jamboree Saturday (May 19).
Nearly every college football scout in the country came out to the day-long event to see talent from all over South Florida.
Rockledge, South Dade, and Palm Beach Lakes each played one another two quarters each. Palm Beach Central and Port St. Lucie Centennial went head-to-head in a traditional football format, as did Glades Central and Deerfield Beach.
The scouts came out in full force Saturday afternoon and night, even though the weather was horrible. It rained most of the day.
Buffalo, Louisville, Miami, Purdue, FAMU, Stanford, Georgia State, Indiana, Nebraska, FAU, FIU, Charlotte, UCF, Kent State, Pitt, UConn, Clemson, Toledo, MTSU, Alabama, Virginia, Keiser, NC State, USF, Auburn, Penn State, Rhode Island, UMass, Missouri, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Fordham, Mississippi, ECU and more were on hand for the jamboree.
Rockledge and South Dade were the first teams to play. Rockledge and South Dade had to deal with monsoon-type weather, which affected each team’s performance.
Rockledge was able to defeat South Dade 6-0.
South Dade would get some revenge in its second matchup of the day as the Homestead-based team was able to shut out Palm Beach Lakes 9-0.
Palm Beach Lakes and Rockledge struggles to find the end zone as both teams ended the game in a scoreless tie.
The Palm Beach Central and Port St. Lucie Centennial game had a bit more action due to improved weather conditions.
Palm Beach Central would break the seal first after running back Charles “CJ” Stewart broke free for a long touchdown. A successful two-point conversion put the Broncos up 8-0.
Centennial athlete Kenny Watson was able to pick off a Palm Beach Central quarterback pass in the first half, which gave the Eagles some life.
Palm Beach Central running back Da’Quan Hamilton was able to push the Broncos lead to 16-0 in the second half after breaking off a 50-plus-yard run to the end zone.
Centennial would get on the board late in the fourth quarter on a pass from quarterback Ashton Houser to wideout Cerdick Wilcox.
The final score would be 16-6.
