LANTANA – Santaluces hosted a four-team spring football jamboree Wednesday night (May 23).

The Chiefs and the Monarch Knights faced off first, and it was a back-and-forth battle that ended in a 11-8 victory for the road team from Broward County.

Santaluces would get on the board first after a short run by rising junior Valdmere Carnegie, who broke free a few times in the game with his elite speed and cutting ability out of the backfield.

Santaluces would go for two and get it on a rollout play by quarterback Tyler Kintz. It would result in an 8-0 lead for the Chiefs.

Late in the second quarter Monarch would pick things up and score on a pass in the red zone from Zachary D’amico to Edwin Lebron. Monarch would complete a successful two point conversion, which would give the Kinghts some life and make the game tied at 8-all.

Monarch would complete its comeback in the last minutes of the second quarter with a field goal from kicker Joao Mattos for an 11-8 lead. The game would end on a interception by Monarch defensive back Vineto Trench.

Monarch and Suncoast would be the next teams up.

There wasn’t much action until Chargers defensive back Tyrese Davis got an interception to give his team some momentum. Unfortunately for Suncoast, nothing came of that turnover.

Monarch linebacker Bobby McLaughlin put his team on the board first with an interception that he returned for a touchdown with 1:53 left in the first quarter.

Monarch would score again on a pass from D’amico to Brady Brauner for a 14-0 lead with 7:18 left in the first quarter.

Suncoast would get on the board late in the game with 3:19 left in the second quarter, as Aaron Adams broke free for a run of 70+ yards.

Monarch would end the spring jamboree action with an unofficial 2-0 record, although the Broward County team was heavily underrated team coming into the event.

John I. Leonard and Suncoast couldn’t get anything going in their matchup as the game ended in a scoreless tie.

Santaluces and John I. Leonard would round out the night’s jamboree.

Santaluces defensive back Bickley Doreceus would capitalize on defense by picking off a John I. Leonard quarterback pass. The Chiefs would take that momentum and score a pass in the red zone from Mintz to wideout Justin Raymonvil, which would precede a successful two-point conversion that resulted in an 8-0 lead.

Early in the second quarter the Chiefs would get on the board again, and this time it would be Gerry Charles dashing through the defense to score. Charles increased the Chiefs lead to 16-0 after his successful two-point conversion.

John I. Leonard would get on the board late in the second quarter on a quarterback draw by Jadiel Cruz, who muscled his way into the end zone and knocked over defenders.

Santaluces would defeat John I Leonard 16-6 and finish the jamboree with an unofficial 1-1 record.

NOTE: Both Suncoast and John I. Leonard would finish the night with unofficial 0-1-1 records for the spring jamboree at Santaluces.
