After FAU Men’s Basketball landed their first four transfers out of the portal in the 2026 cycle earlier this month, it had been a quiet stretch for some time…until earlier Wednesday evening.

Sam Kayser reported via Twitter/X that Kieran Mullen, a 7-foot transfer from Pittsburgh, has committed to John Jakus and Florida Atlantic, marking the Owls fifth addition through the transfer portal and second 7-footer added.

Mullen is a former 3-star recruit out of St. Thomas More HS who committed to play for Pittsburgh in late April of 2025. The Vancouver, Canada native was initially expected to redshirt last season, but ended up playing in 20 games for the Panthers due to nagging injuries to their frontcourt. Mullen averaged just 5.4 minutes per game with four appearances against top-25 opponents inside the ACC.

Florida Atlantic is getting a guy who will bring even more size to the Owls frontcourt, measuring 7’0″ tall and weighing about 220 lbs. Mullen will also look to bring reliable rebounding, solid shot blocking, and finishing around the rim. Along with this, the 7-footer has showed himself to be more than comfortable in the pick-and-roll with great hands and promising rim-running ability.

It’s unclear exactly what Mullen’s role in Boca Raton will look like next season, very possibly being the Owls’ backup center behind the aforementioned Fawaz Ifaola. Nonetheless, this appears to be an acquisition with tremendous upside for head coach John Jakus, especially knowing him and his coaching staff’s ability when it comes to developing frontcourt talent.

Welcome to paradise, Kieran!
