BOCA RATON – Bill Young is that rare talent who can make a considerable impact on his teammates and the scoreboard in multiple ways.

The 5-foot-9, 160 pound athlete matured quite quickly as the season progressed in his freshman year at St. Andrew’s. His presence on the field gave the Scots ample opportunities to win games, as his team completed one of the school’s most successful season ever with a 7-4 overall record and its first FHSAA playoff appearance in 45 years.

On defense, Young recorded 70+ tackles and three interception. And on offense, he tallied 400+ receiving yards while adding 300+ rushing yards and 5 total touchdowns in 11 games played.

Young’s best game of the season came against Ransom Everglades in Week 8, which was a 29-20 road victory for St. Andrews. He racked up 2 interceptions on defense and added 2 total touchdowns to help his team pull off the win.

“Ransom Everglades was a undefeated team at the point in the season, so I wanted to end their undefeated train,” Young said.

Jeremiah Young, the older brother of Bill and the team’s starting quarterback, looked back on the freshman’s impact in that game.

“He came up big against Ransom with the 2 interceptions, one he returned,” Jeremiah said. “And then he also turned a 4th-and-inches play into a touchdown run, which we needed.”

Jeremiah had more to say about his younger brother’s athleticism and overall impact on the game.

“His game is fast and if you turn on any game tape, he stands out whenever he has the ball because he either outruns everyone or is running through everyone,” Jeremiah said. “He’s nonstop on both sides of the ball.”

Bill recapped his freshman season at St. Andrew’s.

“I felt that I played well overall,” Bill said. “But I made many mental mistakes that could have made my freshman year even better.”

With that said, Bill’s sophomore year should be even better at St. Andrew’s.

“My plan is to continue helping my team win, if that means I need to play 10 different positions,” Bill said. “I also want to make another playoff appearance, but in the second or third round. Most importantly, I want to have fun!”
