BOYNTON BEACH – Tyler Aronson is a highly touted quarterback for a good reason.

Even though he’s still only a freshman at Benjamin, the 6-foot-2, 200-pound quarterback put on a clinic in last night’s (May 20) spring football game against Boynton Beach on the road. He led the Buccaneers to an easy 41-6 win over Tigers by way of his five touchdown passes, the first of which came on a 75-yard bomb to sophomore wideout Darrell Sweeting.

The Aronson-Sweeting scoring connection happened on the game’s very first play, which made it a 6-0 lead for Benjamin.

“Before the game, I was telling the guys to come out with energy,” Aronson said. “I want to show everyone what the new Benjamin is. Forget about all the old years. This is the start of the fall season, so I wanted to start the tone right.”

Aronson threw another touchdown pass to Sweeting with 1:29 left in the second quarter, which gave Benjamin a 34-0 lead over Boynton Beach going to halftime.

By that point, Aronson had already thrown for four of his five touchdown passes, with at least one of those going to junior tight end Sean Rooney. The Aronson-Rooney end zone connection happened on a corner route with the tight end making an easy grab for Benjamin.

“Our line played great and our defense got stops to put me back on the field,” Aronson said. “Our receivers played great too.”

Also, fellow Benjamin freshman and running back Chauncey Bowens had a great spring game outing against Boynton Beach. He finished the first half with 105 rushing yards and a touchdown on the ground.

“Chauncey ran the ball well,” Aronson said.

Aronson had more to say about Sweeting and Rooney, who scored two receiving touchdowns each.

“We built chemistry with each other in the offseason,” Aronson said. “They have been working their tails off all offseason…I’m really proud of them.”

Benjamin head coach Eric Kresser spoke on his team’s overall performance against Boynton Beach.

“They came out really prepared,” Kresser said. “They kept it simple. They knew what they were doing. They knew their assignments and they played a great game. The guys up front let the other guys make all those plays. The o-line, d-line, those guys were getting after it.”

NOTE: Benjamin’s other score in this game was courtesy of a punt return to the end zone by Sweeting, who scored three times overall against Boynton Beach.
