WEST PALM BEACH, FLA. — Fans packed the stands expecting a good one, but what they got was an instant classic. In a game filled with explosive plays, clutch moments, and dramatic lead changes, the Buchholz Bobcats held off the Newman Greenies, 34–30, in what might go down as one of the best high school football games of the year.

From the opening kick, it was clear neither team would back down. After Newman won the coin toss and deferred, Buchholz wasted no time striking first. Running back Ashton Norris powered up the middle for the opening touchdown to give the Bobcats a 7–0 lead.
Newman answered right back. Quarterback Jyron Hughley connected with Leslie Mosley on a perfectly executed wide receiver screen for a touchdown. The extra point was blocked, leaving Buchholz up 7–6.
Moments later, the Bobcats extended their lead after a goal-line fumble was recovered in the end zone by Andrew Defusco, making it 14–6. But Phoenix Donghia brought Newman closer with a keeper out of the Wildcat formation, trimming the deficit to 14–12 despite a penalty wiping away a successful two-point try.
Buchholz tacked on a field goal to make it 17–12, but Newman stole the momentum just before halftime. Hughley took it himself for a score, and Donghia added the two-point conversion to give the Greenies a 20–17 lead with under a minute left. Still, Buchholz answered before the break with a spectacular toe-tap touchdown in the corner of the end zone to go up 24–20 at halftime.
The back-and-forth continued in the second half. Hughley once again found the end zone late in the third quarter, giving Newman a 27–24 lead heading into the fourth. A Bobcat field goal tied it at 27, and with just over three minutes to go, Newman briefly reclaimed the advantage on another clutch kick, 30–27.
But when it mattered most, Buchholz quarterback Andrew Whittemore delivered the play of the night — rolling to his right and launching a 50+ yard strike to Justin Williams for the go-ahead touchdown. The Bobcats’ defense rose to the occasion in the red zone to close out the game and secure the hard-fought win.
And @BuchholzFB is going to close this one out after a strong defensive stand in the Redzone.
