JUPITER, Fla. – The dog days of winter in Florida have come and they have gone, spring sports have begun in the high school and college circuits in the state while winter sports like basketball have started to reach their end.
Tonight, the lacrosse world was treated to a spectacle of a matchup, the newest dominant force in the state, the defending champion Benjamin Buccaneers, drove up the road to Jupiter to take on the historically prestigious program of the Jupiter Warriors.
Jupiter threw the first punch as David Druhot landed a diving shot to put Jupiter out in front, but that lead would not last long.
Benjamin would respond as Sophomore phenom Sawyer Fasano would score three straight, clocking in a hat-trick before the 1st quarter ended.
Jupiter would respond as Gavin Meyers would land his first goal of the night followed by Druhot’s second, tying the game at three a piece.
Meyers would go on to have five goals on the night, playing a key role in this victory for the Warriors.
Both teams traded blows as the game went in Jupiter’s favor heading into the 4th as they lead by one.
Jupiter would land two more punches to take a 11-8 lead with under two and a half minutes left in the game but Benjamin did not show defeat.
With a late goal from Campbell Hogan younger brother of King’s Academy and Jupiter alum Trace Hogan who’s had his own success at the college lacrosse level, brought Benjamin back into the game and a late hit called on the Jupiter defense gave Benjamin a lifeline.
There was still plenty of work to do from the Bucs.
Facing a barrage of shots, Jupiter goalie Ty St. Jacques stepped up in the most crucial series of the game, piloting Jupiter to victory.
Looking ahead, Jupiter is on the road on Tuesday to play South Fork, meanwhile for Benjamin, they take the short trip back to Palm Beach Gardens where they look to bounce back against North Broward Prep on Wednesday.
