BOCA RATON – St. Andrews received a good challenge from Coral Springs Charter last night (Aug. 19).
Despite the final score turning out to be a close 28-21 win for the Scots, the Panthers would not give up at any point in the game.
While St. Andrews never trailed in this one, it was quite obvious that a team effort was required to hold on.
The difference turned out to be one play. It was a long touchdown run by Scots junior running back Bill Young with 8:44 left in the first quarter.
As Young found a way to scramble out of a host of Panthers trying to tackle him, he bursted out to their territory and gained enough speed along the way to find the end zone.
Along with an extra point, the Scots took a 7-0 lead that proved to be a sticking point throughout this contest.
“We have been practicing those plays all summer long,” Young said. “We just came out and executed, nothing less. We expected to do that, and that’s what happened.”
Young spoke on how Coral Springs Charter made it interesting throughout the game.
“They’re a tough team we played,” Young said. “They’re well coached. But I felt like we prepared better. We had a setback with COVID contract tracing, but we came out here and dominated.”
St. Andrews head coach Jimmy Robertson spoke on the outcome of this game.
“It was a battle,” Robertson said. “We played four quarters of football. That’s what it’s all about. We didn’t give up. We had great senior leadership, and we just battled out.”
