High Motor: Devin Singletary shines to begin New York Giants Training Camp

East Rutherford, NJ.- Consistency.

That’s a word that’s unfortunately eluded the New York Giants offense for a very long time.

After years of mediocre QB play, a sub par receiver room and an injury prone Saquon Barkley, the Giants are looking to turn their fortunes around in 2024. This off-season, the aforementioned Saquon Barkley tested the free agency waters, and signed a massive deal with the division rival Philadelphia Eagles.

New York’s RB room bounced back with the signing of Devin Singletary, on a 3 year, $16.5M deal. Singletary, coming off of a career year with the Houston Texans, is poised to be the Giants feature back in 2024.

During the 2023-24 season, “Motor” Singletary rushed for just under 900 yards from scrimmage, alongside 4 touchdowns. Singletary’s versatility shined last season, as he also picked up just under 200 yards receiving, now clocking in at approximately 1,100 yards of total offense.

Despite limited snap counts at the beginning of his NFL career, the South Florida faithful have always known how big of a game changer Devin Singletary really is. Devin Singletary was THE guy down in Palm Beach, dominating the entire tri-county during his career at American Heritage (Delray). While at American Heritage, Devin recorded over 4,900 rushing yards, earning two First Team All State selections and a 3-Star Recruit rating.

Motor decided to stay home, committing to Florida Atlantic University, where the production continued to increase in value. In three seasons at FAU, Devin recorded 4,283 rushing yards and 66 scores. During his freshman year, Singletary became the first Owl to record a 1,000 yard rushing season. After his storied collegiate career was over, Singletary would be drafted 74th Overall by the Buffalo Bills in 2019.

Leading into the 2024 season, Devin Singletary’s role should increase as we get closer to Week 1. During the opening days of Giants Training Camp, Motor has received the majority of first team offensive reps, looking like the clear cut RB1. With that being said, the Giants have a deep running back room for Training Camp, which means competition is at an all time high. Motor has reportedly “shown off his elusiveness” throughout Camp, breaking off a few nice runs.

Devin Singletary’s ability to make a man miss with a wicked two step is unmatched by any other back in the league. Singletary consistently shows that he can extend plays on the ground, gaining extra yards, while the defender is on the ground. This ability, paired with a short injury history, makes Devin one of the premier backs in the NFL. His 5 foot 7 frame allows him to have a low center of gravity, making it harder for defenders to wrap up on him.

There’s a lot of buzz surrounding Devin Singletary right now. The Giants were high on him, scouts and analysts are high on him and the fans should be too. Just days ago, Pro Football Focus projected Devin will record his first 1,000+ season in the NFL, with just over 1,100 yards on the ground.
