BELLE GLADE – When a player wants to suit up for his hometown, there is a sense of pride that comes with it.
On Wednesday (July 22), defensive tackle Keon Kindred chose to move on from Wellington and transfer to Glades Central. The Muckstepper wants to finish out his high school football career where he feels most comfortable at.
“I have always been a kid from the Muck,” the 6-foot-6, 255-pound defensive tackle said. “I lived there my whole life. I grew up watching my brother (Keshon Kindred) play for Glades Central. I always wanted to be a Raider, but I started playing travel basketball with the Wellington Wolves and that became my favorite sport. People always convince me to play football, so I tried it out and now I love it. But the reason I left Wellington was because It didn’t feel like home to me and I want to feel like I was at home, so that’s why I decided to go to Glades Central.”
The Raiders are getting a very productive defender who finished his sophomore season with 32 tackles and 7 sacks. The rising star’s best individual performance came in Wellington’s Week 4 game against Palm Beach Central, when he had 12 tackles and 2 sacks in his former team’s 30-7 loss.
Kindred was relatively succinct with his goals for this upcoming fall season.
“I want to end the season with over 20 sacks and at least 5 offers,” Kindred said. “I want to be a Top 15 player in my class and win a state championship.”
We will follow Kindred’s overall development and progress at Glades Central. Stay tuned.
