Travis Hunter’s defensive snaps went up for the third straight week. His offensive snaps did not. Hunter played 45 snaps on defense, a season high, while playing only five on offense.
Hunter intercepted New England quarterback Drake Maye in the end zone, the first interception of his career.
Through three weeks, Hunter’s snap diet has stayed relatively flat on offense, as he registered four, seven, and five snaps respectively. On defense he has seen a steady rise, and this week he was Jacksonville’s second-most used cornerback.
His rise in defensive snap count supports what the Jaguars said about easing him back from injury. Hunter tore his LCL in October 2025 and his first game actions since came in Week 1 of this season.
On Hunter’s offensive possessions he didn’t see the ball and was only ever in for one play at a time. He never got a real opportunity to get into rhythm on offense. It continues to look like Hunter may be on his road to a full-time cornerback with a few plays on offense.
He still isn’t a full-time defender. But a week after playing 63% of Jacksonville’s defensive snaps, Hunter played 45 out of 60 against New England, good for 75%, the biggest single-week jump of his career.
Next up, Hunter lines up across from arguably the best receiving corps in the league in Cincinnati. Last season, Hunter gave up a long pass interference in the eventual game-winning drive against the Bengals.
His snap count will be interesting to see, along with whether the Jaguars’ defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile trust him with the Ja’Marr Chase assignment. Chase has enjoyed success against the Jaguars, bringing in 31 catches for 391 yards in three games.
The verdict, three weeks in: Hunter’s defensive share is climbing fast. 59%, 63%, 75%, at this rate he will be a full-time cornerback within a month. He still doesn’t have a true offensive package.
