The Miami Hurricanes started the Jai Lucas era in Coral Gables on the right note, earning themselves a 86-69 win over the Jacksonville Dolphins.

In a game that was too close for comfort at some points for Coach Lucas and his Hurricanes, Miami managed to pull away in the 2nd half outscoring Jacksonville 45-34. The Canes led by their high scoring offense helped build that massive lead in the 2nd half.

Indiana transfer forward Malik Reneau led Miami with a strong debut performance, finishing with 20 points, 2 rebounds and 2 assists, while TCU transfer Ernest Udeh Jr. chipped in with a 14 point and 14 rebound double-double. Miami also saw productive guard play from true freshman 5 star Shelton Henderson, adding 15 points, helping the Canes control the offense.

The early win gives the Canes an encouraging start to the season as they look to bounce back from last season and re-establish themselves as a serious contender in the ACC.

Miami will be back home on Thursday as they host Bethune-Cookman for a 7:00 tipoff at the Watsco Center.
