MIAMI GARDENS – The Miami Hurricanes came out explosive against the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats last night (Sept. 14).  

The Canes gathered 34 points in the first half, as quarterback Tyler Van Dyke continued on his high game by going 19-of-23 with 247 yards and two touchdowns in Miami’s 48-7 win.

Van Dyke even had his own rushing touchdown this game.  

“Well, Tyler [Van Dyke] operated at a very high level and so did the receivers,” Hurricanes head coach Mario Cristobal said of his team’s hard performance. “Xavier [Restrepo] had another great day. Jacolby George played well. I know Colbie [Young] is kicking himself a little bit but he played hard. It wasn’t his best performance, but he did some good things. All the running backs ran really hard. And the first team offensive line guys blocked really well.”

Miami’s defense did not come to play as it held Bethune-Cookman to zero points until the last  quarter. 

Despite Cookman’s shortcomings, head coach Raymond Woodie Jr. was proud of his team’s perseverance. 

“I’m proud of them, they fought until the very end and got to score, but that wasn’t good enough,” Woodie stated. “At least we can leave off a good mode because those guys fought. Now we get ready for conference.”

Miami is now 6-0 against Bethune-Cookman in this series.  

Miami (3-0) will take its next two games on the road. 

“This is the last time we play at Hard Rock for three weeks or so. That was a big offseason point, we were going to make Hard Rock our place. We were going to make it a tough place for people to come in and play and we’re off to a good start there. Now, taking this thing on the road, our processes really don’t change,” Cristobal concluded. 

The next game for Miami is at Temple in Pennsylvania on Saturday, Sept. 23 at 3:30 p.m.
