Miami took care of business on Tuesday night, beating Florida State for the first time since 2023.
The Miami Hurricanes earned themselves a hard-fought road win on Tuesday night, defeating rival Florida State 83-73 at the Donald L. Tucker Civic Center in a late season ACC battle. The victory for the Hurricanes marks Miami’s first win over Florida State since January of 2023, snapping FSU’s six-game winning streak over them.
Both teams were even with each other going back and forth for the majority of the first half, with Miami going into the break leading 38-32. The Hurricanes offense, which shot 53% from the field for the game (43% 3PT), would take advantage in the second half despite turnovers, and pull away late despite the Seminoles late game comeback attempt.
Forward Malik Reneau led the way for Miami doing his usual, putting up 23 points along with 12 rebounds. Tre Donaldson provided a spark on offense as well, having himself another big game in front of his hometown crown with 21 points, 6 assists and 6 rebounds.

Miami’s control in the paint and rebounding was a clear difference as it remains one of the Hurricanes’ strongest factors, as they out-rebounded Florida State by 19.
“He (Reneau) came up with some timely offensive rebounds today,” said head coach Jai Lucas following the game. “I thought it was his best rebounding game. For me, it’s hard to find too many people in the ACC better than him.”
Despite this, the game wasn’t pretty for Miami. Eliminating turnovers and taking advantage of free-throws have continued to be something preached by Jai Lucas as we enter a pivotal time in the season.
“The only thing I’m kind of pissed about right now is the 18 turnovers that led to 26 points for them. I thought we were having a good defensive game until we gave them the ball,” said Lucas.
Not every win has to be pretty, and for Miami right now, winning is all that matters. The Hurricanes are continuing to stack needed victories, and they need to continue to do just that as they strengthen their résumé game by game in the push to secure a spot in March Madness.
