WEST PALM BEACH – Tre’Von Taylor is a supremely talented quarterback.
All one will need to do is watch the senior-to-be’s Hudl film and witness how the 6-foot, 175-pound signal caller torched defenses with both his arms and legs. He’s a dual threat for a reason.
As a junior in 2019, Taylor threw for 1,897 yards with 26 touchdown passes and only four interceptions. He added 266 rushing yards and seven touchdowns on the ground.
The No. 1-ranked quarterback in Palm Beach County (No. 16 overall player) led Palm Beach Lakes to its first end-of-season No. 1 team ranking in all local media outlets, the District 12-7A title with a 9-0 regular season, a few weekly appearances in the Florida High School Football all-classification state Top 25 team rankings, and the Lou Groza Team of the Year.
“It was exciting and fun,” Taylor said. “I knew this was going to be my breakout season.”
Taylor’s best individual game as a junior came in the first round of the Class 7A playoff between Palm Beach Lakes and East Lake (Tarpon Springs). In what turned out to be a wild 32-27 home win, Taylor led the Rams in a fourth-quarter comeback triumph by way of a late touchdown pass to outgoing senior wide receiver and Duquesne signee Christopher Johnson.
“It was a one-on-one, and they were blitzing some people,” Taylor said of the East Lake defense. “CJ is a deep ball threat, so I took a three-step drop, kept their safety in the middle of the field and threw it up to him. It felt like a movie, and I felt like the moment was meant for me.”
After Taylor’s junior season ended, it was presumed in some circles that his recruiting process could heat up a little bit. But it has not gone the way he would have liked.
Taylor believes he knows why this is happening to him right now.
“It’s crazy,” Taylor said. “I feel like I’m definitely overlooked and that keeps me motivated everyday when I train. I just keep that chip on my shoulder, to be honest. I just control the controllable.”
During the coronavirus pandemic, Taylor has been spending a lot of time in training mode. His typical workout regimen includes an assortment of pushups, sit-ups, and footwork drills.
“Getting bigger and faster is the goal for me,” Taylor said. “I think they (college) are scared of my height and weight. I don’t have that top speed for my size. But I’m working on it. I gained 10 pounds since the season ended.”
There’s also progress on the recruiting front for Taylor. Just last week, he received his first offer from Graceland, an NAIA school based in Lamoni, Iowa.
Taylor announced his breakthrough moment on social media during the afternoon hours of May 22.
With that said, Taylor is finally on the recruiting board. Another amazing fall season from should seal the deal, one would expect.
“I have no comment,” Taylor said. “I’ll show you.”
