Inter Miami CF finally put an end to their four-game winless streak in dominant fashion, defeating visiting Montreal FC 4-2 in a thrilling MLS showdown. The much-needed victory was powered by superstar duo Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez, who each scored twice to secure three crucial points for the Herons.
From the opening whistle, Miami looked determined to break their frustrating run. Messi opened the scoring in the first half with a curling shot from outside the box, followed by Suárez in the second half doubling the lead with a clinical finish. Moments later, Suárez struck again, capitalizing on a defensive mishap. A loose ball fell to him in the attacking area, and he fired it home to make it 3-0. Messi added an exclamation mark for the fourth goal in the 87th minute, putting away a perfect cross from Suarez. The duo looked like their former selves. Montreal had a couple consolation goals but Miami was clearly on a mission Wednesday night to make a statement that their recent woes were just a speed bump on the road to the playoffs.
“The most important takeaway is that we won, we had been in a bad stretch,” Suarez mentioned after the game. “We had to take responsibility for the bad results. We needed to correct things, win games, regain our confidence and get back to the team we were before.”
The win not only lifts morale but moves Miami just 2 points from 3rd place in the East. With Messi and Suárez back among the goals, fans will hope this performance marks the beginning of a strong second-half surge. For now, the Herons can celebrate a long-awaited victory—one that could prove pivotal in their season. They host Columbus Crew Saturday Night 5/31/25 7:30PM EST @ Chase Stadium before getting ready for FIFA Club World Cup in Mid June.
