The Wake Forest Demon Deacons are looking to return to ACC relevance in 2025. Headed into this season, there’s a lot of uncertainty surrounding the conference. Who will secure that Playoff bid? Who will be a contender? Who could make that next step from last season? The Power vacuum is wide open, and honestly, it’s anyone’s league.

If Wake Forest wants to build off their less than ideal 4-8 2024 season in any positive manner, they’re going to need to make a very uninspiring offense turn explosive, and they need to do it fast. Luckily for the Deacs- I know just the guy: 3rd year WR Micah Mays.

Mays, a South Florida alum (Benjamin, 2023), is one of the regions most explosive playmakers. A crisp route runner with reliable hands and a wide catch radius, there was a reason that Micah was high on many recruiting boards during his high school career.

During his first season in Winston Salem, Micah Mays didn’t see any action. But in his second year with the program, Micah showed glimpses of that elite talent we all know and love.

Micah Mays contributed in five games for the Deacs, and recorded 16 grabs for 218 yards and 2 touchdowns.

As the 2025 off-season came and went, Micah Mays stayed loyal to the Demon Deacons, avoided the Transfer Portal and returned for year three. Throughout spring ball, Micah turned heads and proved himself as Wake Forest’s potential WR1. Because of his incredible spring, Micah has been receiving ‘Breakout watch’ reports from College football analysts across the country.

After catching up with Micah on a quick zoom call, here’s what he had so say about his confidence headed into this upcoming fall:

“I’m feeling really excited for my junior year. I learned a lot over the past years from older guys that have come throughout the room, and I’ve got the game experience. My confidence level headed into this year is high.” Mays shared.

Later on in the call, I had Micah reflect over the off-season and talk about different ways he grew on and off the field in order to be ready to roll for this upcoming season.

“This summer, I’ve spent a lot of time with the strength staff and working position ran drills. The other day, I finally hit 22mph top speed. I’m ready to showcase that in the fall.” Mays eagerly stated with a smile. “On the field, the biggest thing I grew would be working the top of routes working to create more separation.”

Micah would go onto share different ways he attacked each workout, and how he’s gotten into that ‘pro mindset’ ahead of a potential Draft year.

“A point of emphasis I had this offseason was making a good morning routine and following it.” Mays stated. “I make sure I wake up with plenty of time to spare, so I can get to the facility 45 minutes before the workout, eat something quick, stretch, roll out and warm up. I feel looser, I feel lighter on my feet and my body just feels better. I’m warm before the workout so I can hit the weights and speed I want.”
