Falling behind early didn’t stop Iowa State, as it powered through Texas Tech on Thursday.
Seventy-five points lit up the board, leaving the Red Raiders at just 53. The game unfolded in Kansas City, part of the Big 12 Tournament grind.
Off the dribble, Tamin Lipsey shaped how fast Iowa State played, pouring in 20 points, more than anyone else on the court. Not far behind came Joshua Jefferson, filling the stat sheet with 18 tallies, 13 boards, and six helpers, his double-double fueling control at both hoops.
Off the jump, Texas Tech kept pace, even edging ahead for a short stretch. Yet Iowa State shiftedgears fast, tight defense sparked its offense. Mistakes by the Red Raiders turned into quickbaskets the other way. That swing opened space on the scoreboard well before the break.
Fueled by muscle work near the basket, Iowa State stretched its edge after halftime. Down low, they crushed Texas Tech 42–18, dominating on the glass and finishing at the rim. Their shootersfound success beyond half of their attempts, yet still held the Red Raiders well below one-thirdaccuracy.
Fumbling through their plays, Texas Tech couldn’t find a groove while Iowa State kept fighting hard on defense. Even after multiple tries to shrink the lead, the Red Raiders fell short each timethe Cyclones surged ahead.
Fueled by sharp shooting off the bench, Iowa State advanced into the Big 12 Tournament semifinals, with its defense clamping down late.
A third-quarter surge swung momentum hard. Stars stepped up when others cooled. Tough rotations kept drives to the basket under wraps. Scoring came fast but never recklessly. Floor balance made the room even with crowdedpossessions. Physicality defined their edge. Bench energy stayed high through every timeout. Late stops sealed what early leads began. Iowa State will face Arizona Friday, March 13th.
