PALM BEACH GARDENS – Andrew Weisz knows exactly what he wants.
The Benjamin incoming senior offensive lineman chose to end his college recruiting process today (July 15) by selecting Yale as his next destination. Although all verbal commitments are non-binding until National Signing Day, it seems as if Weisz is really committed to his final decision.
“I just saw everything Yale had to offer with the facilities to the dorms, and I liked everything that I saw,” Weisz said. “They also showed me the most love out of all of my offers I had.”
Weisz (No. 1 offensive lineman; No. 8 overall player in Palm Beach County) had a total of nine college scholarship offers prior to his big day. The schools in contention with Yale were Maryland, Indiana, USF, Harvard, Dartmouth, Brown, Cornell, and Bryant.
Back in February, Weisz told New Era Prep what he was looking for in the college of his choice.
“I focus primarily on a good education, along with a high-caliber football team as well,” said Weisz, who as a student-athlete currently has a 3.67 GPA and an ACT score of 29. “I care about playing at the next level, but also the years when I’m done with football and what I am able to accomplish.”
Weisz had a very good junior season at Benjamin, as he tallied at least 29 pancakes on the offensive line in 12 games played. He helped his team reach the 3A-Region 3 semifinal round, which culminated in a 28-7 road loss to Bishop Verot (Fort Myers).
And now with the upcoming season hanging in the balance due to the current coronavirus pandemic – the FHSAA may make a final decision on all fall sports next Monday (July 20) – Weisz may or may not have a senior campaign at Benjamin. But provided it does happen, the 6-foot-6, 300-pound lineman and Rivals.com three-star is clear on what he wants to accomplish.
“I can’t wait for this year to lead the offensive line with my fellow senior lineman Joey Schmidt,” Weisz said. “You can look forward to complete domination on the line of scrimmage from me and the offensive line. You will see us winning as many games as possible with the team. It’s gonna be a great season, no doubt. I can’t wait to see what the future holds.”
