Earlier this week, the University of Miami held its Pro Day for aspiring players hoping to make the leap to the National Football League and be drafted at the upcoming NFL Draft, scheduled for the end of April. No one’s stock rose nearly as much as cornerback Keionte Scott’s did.
Scott wound up running a 4.33-second 40-yard dash, which would have ranked second among cornerbacks at the NFL Scouting Combine. In addition to a blazing 40-time, he also showcased a 10-foot-3-inch broad jump and a 44-inch vertical jump.
Even before his Pro Day, Scott was already being considered a potential Day 2 pick as primarily a slot cornerback, and his film backed that up, being an excellent run defender and an extremely strong blitzer. However, he needs to develop more in coverage, particularly in coverage, where he is often a step or two late and has a hard time seeing the routes develop.
Scott ranked 13th in coverage grade among cornerbacks last season (87.1) and third in run defense grade (91.2). Scott also had a passer rating of only 69.9 when targeted and recorded two interceptions as well.
Scott is already projected to be one of the better slot cornerbacks taken in the upcoming draft. Combine good film and amazing athletic testing numbers, and he will have fully solidified himself as a high-end Day 2 selection in the upcoming NFL Draft.
