Keiser continues impressive run in win over Warner University

WEST PALM BEACH – It’s hard not to like this Keiser team right now, especially with the results they’re producing in their inaugural season.

The Seahawks and Socha magic is still working after they took down Warner 27-17. Keiser has tallied a record of 6-2 overall (4-0 Mid Sun Division), which is highlighted by their current four-game win streak.

Just to put things into perspective, Keiser has the fourth best record for college football teams in the state of Florida. Keiser only trails UCF (7-0), USF (7-0), and UF (6-1).

To say the Seahawks are in good company would be an understatement right now.

Keiser quarterback Eli Matthews has been a leader for the Seahawks squad, and he showed his leadership once again last Saturday. Matthews went 19-26 passing for 263 passing yards, and two passing touchdowns. He also added 25 rushing yards.

Marques Burgess would lead all rushers with 15 carries for 78 yards, and one touchdown. Shavon Taylor led the receiving corps with four catches for 78 yards.

Keiser’s defense is legit and they’re only getting better as the season progresses. Keiser was able to pick off Warner’s quarterback four times Saturday.

The most memorable interception came on a 22-yard pick-six by Deandre Henderson to give Keiser its first lead of the game with a little under three minutes left in the first half. Keiser was down 17-7 at one point in the first half.

In the second half both teams kept each other in check although Warner did press Keiser to mount a late comeback effort twice in the second half.

Defensive back Sage Chen-Young came up with a touchdown-saving interception early in the fourth quarter. Then after a tipped pass by Keiser defensive lineman Victor Alvarez, linebacker Marques Gayot would come up with the interception to give Keiser’s offense the ball back later in the fourth quarter.

Matthews and the Seahawks offense took the field one last time and ended the game by taking a knee.

Keiser has won overtime games, won close games, lost big, lost close, won big, and scored comeback wins. This team’s resume is setting them up for success in the near future as they look to make a playoff run.

The Seahawks will appreciate their 7:00 p.m. start after playing five straight afternoon starts. They will travel to take on Ave Maria and put their perfect conference record on the line once again Oct. 27.
