LAKE WORTH – It is a sure thing that Steven Shore will come through when it matters most on special teams.
As a junior at Park Vista, the kicker/punter was 12-for12 on PAT’s and 1-for-2 on FG’s (32-yard FG) in 4 games played this past season. He was third on the team in scoring with 15 points, behind co-leaders Gio Thomas (former quarterback and now-Park Vista alum; 18 points) and Markel King (running back/transfer to Palm Beach Central; 18 points).
“The takeaway from my junior season was to always seize the opportunity when it was given to me,” Shore said.
“With such a short season, you had to play every single down like it was your last down on the field,” Shore continued. “My teammates and I grew a lot closer last year and we stuck together more than ever through COVID. That helped a lot of us get through it.”
Shore, who has been recently ranked as New Era Prep’s No. 2 specialist for the Class of 2022, earned two college offers in the offseason. One of them came from Southern Louisiana Community Christian College.
Shore has also garnered interest from the likes of Columbia, Mercer, Valparaiso, and three other schools from the Division III level.
And now for his upcoming senior season, Shore has specific goals he would like to achieve.
“My personal goals are 100 percent in extra points, 100 percent in field goals, reaching over 100 points, 100 touchback percentage on kickoffs that are not onside kicks, and at least five punts pinned inside of the 20,” Shore said. “Our team goal is to go 1-0 every single game until we are state champions.”
Week 1 for Park Vista will be against Suncoast. It will be held tonight (Aug. 26; 6:30 p.m. kickoff) at Jupiter High School.
