Leader from a distance: QB Jeremiah Young gets himself right

BOCA RATON – The scholarship offers haven’t poured in yet for Jeremiah Young.

In spite of this, he keeps a positive attitude and continues to work on his overall craft during the current coronavirus pandemic.

After all, the St. Andrew’s junior quarterback has a lot to be happy about already.

This past season, Young registered 1,400+ passing yards with 17 touchdown passes in 11 games. He added 550+ rushing yards and 7 touchdowns on the ground.

One of Young’s best games came in Week 3 at home against Boca Raton Christian, which turned out to be an easy 53-20 win. The 5-foot-11, 175-pound quarterback accounted for six touchdowns, most of which came in the air.

Young ultimately led St. Andrews to a 7-4 overall record, which included the Scots first playoff appearance in 45 years. It turned out to be one of the most successful seasons in this program’s history.

“Jeremiah is a great leader,” St. Andrew’s head coach Jimmy Robertson said. “He’s a great pocket passer who can extend the play with his feet. He’s been a 2-year captain with a great work ethic.”

At this present time, the First Team All-County quarterback (South Florida Sun-Sentinel pick) has been working out on his own and with trainers he can trust. He’s also staying in touch with his coaches and teammates.

“I’ve been working out since a week after our playoff loss,” Young said. “And ever since then I workout with two different quarterback trainers. I lift during the week and I watch our offensive film to look at things I need to tweak.”

Young delved into his routine a little bit more.

“I have been trying to step up as a captain this offseason,” Young said. “I’m getting the team more involved and bonded in different ways.”

We’ll be closely following Young’s progress in more ways than one from now until the day he signs with a college next year.

SIDE NOTES: Young is one of our Close to 25 players and is our No. 2-ranked quarterback in Palm Beach County. He has a legitimate chance to crack our Top 25 in the near future.

Also, Young was selected as a Second Team All-County quarterback this season by the Palm Beach Post. In addition, he was invited to compete in Rivals Camp and the Elite 11 quarterback competition earlier this offseason.

For his career at St. Andrew’s, Young has 2,304 passing yards and 21 touchdown passes to date. He also has 1,136 yards and 17 rushing touchdowns to date.

“I look forward to coaching him one more year and watching him continue to grow as a man, student, and athlete,” Robertson said of his quarterback.
