WEST PALM BEACH – Silko Price wants to do everything he can to put Palm Beach Lakes back on top.
Just two seasons ago, the L.O.T. (Lakes on Top) collective finished as Palm Beach County’s unanimous No. 1 overall team, including the Lou Groza Team of the Year and the Lou Groza Coach of the Year for Rams head coach Al Shipman. But last season, it was a different experience, to say the least.
Price was a part of what proved to be a mostly youth movement this past fall at Palm Beach Lakes. Even though his team finished with a 1-6 overall record, Price and the young Rams grew a lot together with valuable playing experience.
As a junior, the 6-foot-2, 175-pound defensive back provided some stability in the secondary. In seven games played, Price had 15 tackles and seven pass breakups, while catching one interception and scoring two touchdowns in the process.
Price’s best individual game last season came against Forest Hill in a very close 27-26 loss that went down to the wire. He recorded six tackles, two pass breakups, and an interception for a touchdown.
For the offseason, particularly in the summer months, Price’s mission has been doing whatever is possible to be a team player both on and off the field. The brotherhood mentality is primarily what catapulted Palm Beach Lakes to the area’s summit in 2019, something he knows about.
“My summer went well,” said Price, who has drawn interest from two unnamed colleges at this time . “Me and my team finally had a real summer to work out like Lakes normally does and go through adversity. The summer has been moving pretty fast.”
Palm Beach Lakes chose to stay close to home for the most part this summer, opting to focus on workout sessions everyday to become a more cohesive unit this upcoming fall season.
“Our focus wasn’t really on tournaments that much,” Price said. “We were focusing on learning more plays, conditioning and getting stronger mentally and physically. The only activities we did were to go to camps.”
Price shared his most meaningful memory of the summer.
“To be honest, our best team bonding moments are when we are in the weight room and trying to finish the workout,” Price said. “Even though we are all exhausted, we all fight together to finish the last set of the workout as a team and it feels great when it’s over.”
Price simply wants to be a better version of himself in his senior year at Palm Beach Lakes. He wants to help his team win at least several more games than last season, a feat that is quite possible to attain.
“You guys can expect a more experienced Silko Price,” he said. “I will be able to recognize plays more quicker, become more of a ball hawk, and know what it takes to win a football game.”
