DELRAY BEACH – He has worked out with Deshaun Watson and Antonio Brown.
He has worked out with Darius Slay and Jerry Jeudy.
He feels as if he’s worthy of being on their level, which is the NFL.
This person is Jevaughn Codlin, a cornerback who may get a call from an NFL team this weekend.
Over the past several years, the Delray Beach raised product has experienced a slew of ups and downs, both on and off the field. In the simplest of terms, Codlin went from being an underrated defensive back at Village Academy to a FCS Bowl All-Star.
The former NAIA standout ended his college football career at Kansas Wesleyan with 145 total tackles, 45 pass breakups, 3 interceptions, 2 fumble recoveries, and 1 forced fumble. His best season came this past year as a senior, giving up only 5 receptions on 40 targets.
With his level of determination and tenacity, he earned his way to a appearance in the FCS Bowl this past December and a slew of workout opportunities with the likes of Ronnie Lane (The Bay Coaching Facility) and Tevin Allen (Gold Feet Global).
“It’s an unreal feeling I have right now,” the 5-door-9, 170-pound cornerback said. “But it’s a feeling I’ve been waiting on for years. It’s a blessing.”
Codlin spoke in depth on his workout with Watson and crew, which happened recently.
“The workout was really good,” he said. “AB is a great dude. He gave me his number like a month ago so we could get some work in. We did so and it didn’t really impact my confidence at all. I know I can ball, and I know I’m already a pro, so going against them is just like practice for when I get to the next level.”
Codlin had more to say about it.
“It was definitely a great experience,” he said. “It was a great opportunity for me to showcase some stuff on tape for some teams to show that me going to a small school does not mean anything. I’m a technician and a work horse.”
We’re currently in Day 3 of the NFL Draft, which highlights the fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh round. You can watch the NFL Draft on ESPN, ABC, or NFL Network right now.
After the draft ends this evening at 7 p.m., NFL teams will be calling up potential prospects for a chance to be an undrafted free agent.
How would Codlin feel if he gets the call of a lifetime?
“I would feel so accomplished, but so ready to work and go earn my shot,” he said. “It’ll be like a dream, but I would quickly go back to work.”
Codlin spoke on his journey from Village Academy to the edge of the NFL.
“It was a bumpy road, honestly,” he said. “I had a great senior year at Village Academy. I had tons of interests from colleges in high school, but went on to Kansas Wesleyan to have a pretty good career. I started every game for three years since I was a freshman. I battled some injuries in my junior campaign, which resulted in some confident issues. But I still kept working on my craft and never stopped from there.”
Codlin went on to lead Kansas Wesleyan in pass breakups as a senior and earn All-KCAC honors. In addition to the FCS Bowl honor he received a few months ago, he built some key networks that led him to Finesse Sports, an agency that is representing him now.
“I’ve just been working during this pandemic and staying ready,” he said. “Whatever happens this weekend, I know I’ve given the game all I had. I thank God, my high school coaches, my family and close friends, The Gold Feet Global empire, Bryant Beal, and Ronnie Lane for helping me get this far.”
