BOYNTON BEACH, FL – With King’s seated at 1-1 and the Cougars seated at 2-0 coming into this game both schools knew how crucial a win from this game would’ve been to start off their season. King’s took advantage of the momentum coming in from last week and made the most of it.

The Lions found the endzone early on in the first quarter with a rushing touchdown from Marion Victor, giving Kings a 7-0 lead at the end of the 1st. Kings would expand that lead with a big 2nd quarter performance, with a field goal from Nick Cueto and a pick-six from Linebacker Peyton Hughes, the Lions bolted into halftime with a 17-3 lead over the Cougars.

However, the fun for the Lions didn’t stop there. On the very first play of the 2nd half coming out of halftime Marion Victor blazed across the field for an 80-yard touchdown to give the Lions a 24-3 lead.

Somerset responded to the big rushing touchdown with a big receiving touchdown of their own, finding Joshua Hibbert down field to get the Cougars on the board giving us a 24-10 game. After a fantastic goal line stand by the Cougars defense forcing an interception at the two-yard line, their offense was found in a predicament. King’s defensive line forced a safety giving the Lions a 26-10 lead. However, this would be the last normal play of the game.

Due to a glitch in the Somerset scoreboard the game officials forced the scoreboard off and decided to call the rest of the game on “officials time”, no one knew how much time was left in the game and for some it seemed like an eternity. However, in that eternity, King’s got its first passing touchdown of the day when QB Corbyn Aleshire found Javian Jones in the endzone off a slant to extend the lead 33-10. Aleshire had spent most of the game at QB after Joe Dailey exited the game early on in the 1st quarter with an undisclosed injury. However, the absence of Dailey did not disrupt the grove that the Lions have had this season so far. King’s would score one more time in the game off a rush from Tristan Stewart, capping off another fantastic display from the Lions running back room this season.

With this win the Lions move to 2-1 and will be facing John Carroll Catholic next week at home, for the Cougars, they fall to 2-1 and will be facing Camden County on the road in Georgia.
