ORLANDO – Our area has several players who suited up for both the Miami Hurricanes and Florida Gators last night (Aug. 24).

Some of them saw significant action, while others didn’t get in the game at all. Regardless of the results (No. 8 Florida defeated Miami, 24-20), it was nice for our team to capture some moments from a localized perspective.

Here’s how our locals fared in Week 0:

Starting junior safety Amari Carter (No. 5 jersey; Palm Beach Gardens alum): 5 tackles (second overall on team, behind only fellow safety Gurvan Hall, Jr.), 1 interception for 22-yard return

Starting junior defensive end Jonathan Garvin (No. 97 jersey; Lake Worth alum): 3 tackles, 1 quarterback hurry

Starting sophomore safety Gurvan Hall, Jr. (No. 26 jersey; Palm Beach Gardens alum): Team-high 5.5 tackles (1 TFL), 1 quarterback hurry

Reserve senior linebacker Zach McCloud (No. 3 jersey; Santaluces alum): 1 tackle

Redshirt freshman quarterback Ryan Rizk (No. 16 jersey; Delray Beach American Heritage alum): Did not appear in the game

FLORIDA GATORS

Reserve freshman cornerback Ka’iir Elam (No. 5 jersey; Benjamin alum): Made appearance in the game

Reserve redshirt freshman tight end Dante Lang (No. 81 jersey; Boca Raton alum): Made appearance in the game

Freshman offensive lineman Da’Quan Thomas (No. 60 jersey; Dwyer alum): Did not appear in the game

Redshirt sophomore athlete Trey Thompson (No. 36 jersey; Dwyer alum): Did not appear in the game
