The 2024 Kinder’s Texas Bowl is set to feature an exciting matchup between the LSU Tigers and the Baylor Bears, both standing at 8-4. This matchup at NRG Stadium is scheduled for December 31, 2024. Kickoff is slated at 2:30 p.m. CT.
Team Overviews:
• LSU Tigers: Under head coach Brian Kelly, LSU concluded the regular season with an 8-4 record. Quarterback Garrett Nussmeier, who has announced his return for his senior season, led the Tigers with 3,739 passing yards, 26 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. The Tigers will be without star pass catchers, WR Kyren Lacy and TE Mason Taylor.
Lacy stepped into the WR1 role this season, following the departure of Malik Nabers and Brian Thomas Jr. to the NFL, was one of the most polarizing receivers in College Football this year, recording 866 Yards and 9 scores.
Taylor solidified himself as one of the nation’s top Tight Ends, recording an extra 586 yards and 2 TDs, while standing as a physically dominant blocker.
Expect to see a young rotation of pass catchers wearing Purple and Gold, as Kelly and his staff prepare the future of the program against one of the top Big12 teams.
• Baylor Bears: This one’s special for Baylor. The Bears are led by head coach Dave Aranda, a former LSU defensive coordinator (2016-2019). Like LSU, Baylor finished the season at 8-4. The Bears are making their first appearance in the Texas Bowl since defeating Vanderbilt in 2018.
Historical Context:
This game marks the first meeting between LSU and Baylor since the 1985 Liberty Bowl, where Baylor secured a 21-7 victory. Overall, LSU leads the all-time series 8-3, with Baylor holding a 3-1 advantage in neutral site games.
