ROYAL PALM BEACH – It’s highly possible that Akeam Woodley will be taking the junior college route.
The Royal Palm Beach outgoing senior wide receiver is close to making a decision in Arkansas Baptist, a JUCO that is based in Little Rock, Ark. It could happen sometime before his high school graduation date of Friday, May 29.
“It’s a two-year HBCU,” the 5-foot-9, 160-pound wide receiver said. “I’m going to study biology and play ball. The school culture is to create the tradition moral and Christian education. After my two years there, I plan to either go to Memphis or Arkansas.”
Woodley finished his senior season at Royal Palm Beach with 12 catches for 153 yards. His best game came in Week 1 against West Boca Raton, when he caught five passes for 65 yards to help his team score a 34-21 win that ended a 20-game losing streak.
Royal Palm Beach went on to finish this past season with a 6-4 record.
“I’m just glad we didn’t go 0-10 again,” Woodley said. “We just stayed focus and kept striving to win games.”
Woodley is graduating from high school in 16 days. But he has mixed feelings about his upcoming virtual ceremony, which must happen due to the coronavirus pandemic.
“I’m disappointed, but I’m happy I’m graduating honestly,” Woodley said.
We’ll follow up with an update on Woodley’s final decision soon.
