DEERFIELD BEACH – The past several months have been memorable for Peyton Giersbrook, to say the least.
As a kicker/punter, the senior specialist went from Boca Raton to Deerfield Beach in the offseason. He left home as a Class 8A Tri-County Silver champion and now hopes to end his high school football career as a Class 8A state champion.
Giersbrook (4-for-5 in field goals attempts with long of 40 yards; 18-for-20 on extra points; one touchback; one pooch kick recovery; 30 points in seven games last season) revealed the reasoning behind his decision to transfer from Boca Raton to Deerfield Beach.
“I just had to make the best decision for myself to get good film for my senior year,” he said. “My junior year went well and I had good stats overall. I know I can do better, and that’s why this season I’m pushing myself to become one percent better every day.”
Giersbrook is enjoying his time right now at Deerfield Beach.
“I like the program and Coach [Jevon] Glenn really does a great job,” he said. “It feels like I joined their family and they also joined mine. It’s just a great opportunity to be over at Deerfield Beach, and I look forward to getting closer with teammates and the coaching staff.”
Giersbrook made sure to make the most of his offseason. He spent quality time in improving his kicking game with renowned trainer Brandon Kornblue.
“Coach Kornblue has developed my as a kicker since I’ve been a freshman from the first time to now,” he said. “There has been a drastic improvement with my kicking and punting. Kornblue is a great coach, and he really helped me become the kicker that I am today. I am grateful to have him as a kicking coach to help me grow not only as a kicker, but a young man.”
With Korbnblue’s support, Giersbrook shined at a few camps this past summer, including one at FIU.
“This summer I have been working with Kornblue, going to his camp, going to his training sessions, going to the field myself, working out, stretching, and doing some yoga,” he said.
Going into his senior season, Giersbrook has interest from Western Carolina. And when his senior year moves along, he hopes to get noticed by even more colleges and universities.
Ultimately, Giersbrook wants to continue being a kicker at the next level.
“My individual goals is to hit a 40-to-45-yard field goal make every single extra point and to have 10-plus touchbacks,” he said. “I’m also going to be punting, so I want to have good hang time and good distance on my punts. I believe all of these are achievable based off my work in the offseason and doing training myself to prepare myself for my senior season.”
Giersbrook delved further.
“Our goal as a team is to win the district,” he said. “I know we want to take everything one game at a time. We go day by day and we get better each day as a team. I know as a team we also want to go deep in the playoffs and make a run to be in the state championship game. I think we have the tools to do that as a team and as a unit…If we are disciplined and do everything we are supposed to do and execute, the sky is the limit.”
