The Miami Hurricanes Men’s Basketball Team secured a home victory Tuesday night as they held off Virginia Tech in a 67-66 ACC conference win.

In front of a crowd of 7,639 spectators at the Watsco Center, the Hurricanes were able to secure the home victory in an intense back and forth battle.

Led by Miami Guard Tre Donaldson—who scored a career-high 32 points and the game winning free throws.

Along with Donaldson’s points he went 13/24 from the field with 2 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals.

Opening the game, the Hurricanes had a fiery start as they had a 7-0 start against the Hokies. In response, they began a run of their own, making the game 12-12 before adding on to make it a 18-14 Virginia Tech lead.

Tre Donaldson began to heat up before the break as he went on an 8-0 run of his own—giving Miami a 22-18 lead. Yet, Virginia Tech didn’t seem to back down as they gained the lead 34-31 going into the half.

Looking to regain the lead once more, Tre Donaldson stepped up in the clutch as he went 5/7 from the field and 3/4 from the charity stripe in the final seven and a half minutes, including his game-winning free throw with 12 seconds to go.

Miami Hurricanes Head Coach Jai Lucas was proud of his team’s performance and ability to get the grind it out victory.

“He willed us to it. And that’s what senior guards who have been in big moments, and why you bet on guys’ pedigree, of guys who won state championships, conference championships, and played in big games for moments like this,” stated Head Coach Jai Lucas on Tre Donaldson’s performance.

Virginia Tech drops to 17-10, while Miami moves up to 21-5. Hoping to continue the winning streak as they play Virginia Saturday at 2pm.
